If you can't access a particular database from off-campus, the first thing you want to try is to access the same resource from a private window (incognito window).

If you can access it from a private window, you can't access the database because of cookies and cache problems. See below for troubleshooting this problem in Firefox and Chrome.

Troubleshooting

Firefox

  1. Clearing cookies for the problematic site:
    1. Go to Options > Privacy and Security > Cookies and Site Data, you can then select Manage Cookies.
    2. Search for the particular website you cannot access and remove that site
  2. Delete history for this site:
    1. Click on menu > History > Show all history.
    2. In the search bar at the top right corner, type the name of the website.
    3. Right click on the website in the results, and select Forget about this site.
  3. Clear history
    1. Click on menu > History >  Clear Recent history
    2. Select Everything as a time range
    3. Click on the arrow next to details and select both cookies and cache.
    4. Click on clear now.

 

Chrome

  1. Clear cookies and cache for a specific site
    1. Click on the three dots at the right corner
    2. Settings > click on Advanced at the bottom
    3. In Privacy and security, select content settings
    4. Cookies > see all cookies and site data
    5. Search (search cookies) for the particular website you cannot access and remove that site.
  2. Clear browsing data
    1. Click on the three dots at the right corner
    2. Click More tools > Clear Browsing Data
    3. Choose a time range. To delete everything select "All time"
    4. Check Browsing history, cookies and other site data, and cached images and files.
