What is the difference between UpToDate and DynaMed?

Answer

Both UpToDate and Dynamed are Point of Care Tools.

Point of Care Tools are resources designed for clinicians to get quick answers to questions, often when they are with a patient. These tools contain filtered, evidence-based information on a variety of topics that makes it easy to find answers to clinical questions. The information is often graded, helping the user to determine the strength of the evidence presented.

A recent study has shown that the quality of the information in both tools is comparable (Bradley-Ridout et al, 2021). The main differences lie in the interface and user preference.

*As of April 14, 2026, McGill no longer has access to UpToDate. Information on how to access Dynamed is available here
