Journal Term Lists is a required step for each new library you create. Some citation formats use abbreviations for journal name rather than the full journal name. EndNote uses Journal Term Lists to substitute abbreviated journal titles for full journal titles.

  1. Go to Library Open Term Lists Journals Term List. Click on the Lists tab.

  2. Highlight Journals, then click Import List

  3. Select medical for medical journals or bioscience for biology. Click Open. Close the Term List window. If you need multiple lists, you have to redo this step for each.

This video demonstrates all the steps needed to set up a journals term list and edit a style to use it, enabling EndNote to substitute full journal names for abbreviations, or abbreviations for full journal names. It is for EndNote 20, but the steps are the same for 21.
