The term e-book is short for electronic book, which is a text that has been converted to a digital form that can be read on a computer or other similar device. E-books used to be electronic versions of books that had been printed on paper, although there are more and more books that are only available in digital form. You can read more about the history and development of e-books at History Cooperative: A History of E Books, and at Project Gutenberg: eBooks: 1971-2011.
